On August 24, 2019, 23-year-old Elijah McClain was stopped by police after someone had called 9-1-1 due to the “suspicious” nature of an anemic young Black man wearing a ski mask while walking home. After police provoked an altercation, a medic with the Aurora Fire Dept injected Elijah with enough ketamine to sedate a man twice his body weight. He suffered medical distress, and died after three days of medical intervention.Community members held a rally outside the Aurora Police Department HQ demanding the firing of Lt.
