Pro-Palestine, Anti-Genocide Activists Rally Outside Denver Community Center with Ties to Israel

Denver, CO — On the afternoon of August 12, queer pro-Palestine activists rallied at The Center on Colfax, which refers to itself as an LGBTQ community center, to call on the CEO and its board to cut ties with sponsors and funders who support Israel. The Center on Colfax produces Denver’s annual Pride celebration, and during this year’s parade, over a hundred protesters disrupted the programming to demand the same thing: “Cut ties with all companies and organizations enabling a genocide against the people of Palestine.”

Below are our first and second parts of the stream.

Last week on August 6, 2024, around 15 protesters entered The Center to conduct a sit-in, calling for a meeting with The Center’s board. Rex Fuller, the CEO, called the police on the sit-in about seven hours in. Dozens of police arrived, including the Denver Metro SWAT team dressed in militarized uniforms. When Lt. David Albi finally gave a five-minute warning, protesters left out the front entrance to avoid arrest.

The three organizations who conducted the sit-in — Disability Liberation For All, Gay Liberation Front for Palestine, and Denver Students for a Democratic Society — all stated that they will continue putting weekly pressure on The Center, which is why they rallied Monday.
