
Dingane is a South African-American journalist, photographer and video editor who spends equal time between Minneapolis, Minnesota and Durban, South Africa. Since joining Unicorn Riot in 2015, he has covered a wide range of socio-economic and political stories in both countries, and around the world. He also works on a variety of day to day administrative tasks for the organization.
Prior to journalism he was an activist organizer who initially got his wings participating in the Occupy Wall Street protests of 2011. Since then he has worked as an organizer for various local community and labor organizations in Minneapolis, before transitioning to journalism full time in 2019.
Much of his stories focus around poverty and environmental struggles in South Africa. He has also covered a wide range of international stories particularly on Syria and the Kurdish liberation movement in the wider Middle East.
His specialties include, investigative analysis, cybersecurity and consensus facilitation. He also has keen interests in world history, music and technology. In his spare time he can be seen enjoying long hikes through nature, reading and experimenting with various food recipes. He studied a bit of French and Japanese in high school. He remains a passionate Japanophile and lover of all things Madonna to this very day.
