On Dec 9, 2023, Minneapolis residents and environmental activists rallied at the Smith Foundry iron-casting facility calling for it to be closed down in response to an EPA inspection that exposed the facility releasing lead and fine particulate matter at twice the legal limit, raising concerns about health impacts.
