Donald Trump came to Denver July 1st, 2016 and was met by the community. During the protest Denver police targeted an Indigenous woman for her religious practices. Josie Valadez Fraire, an Indigenous woman, was detained and issued a citation for disobeying a lawful order to put out an active fire. The “active fire” was the sacred white sage she was burning in order to cleanse negative energies and bless the space.
