Dispatches from COP 29: Climate Justice Organizers Demand Trillions in Reparations be Paid to Countries in the Global South

Organizers at COP 29, dubbed the “finance COP,” rallied outside the proceedings to demand that wealthy countries in the global north, who are responsible for the bulk of climate-changing consumption, pay reparations for the effects of climate change in the amount of at least $5 trillion, which they say is the starting point for the investment needed to respond to climate change’s impacts on their home countries.
