As several thousand protesters took the streets of Chicago on the first day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), an extended melee occurred as dozens of protest marshals physically blocked certain protesters from going off the approved route of the protest.
The confrontation lasted nearly the whole seven-block route from Union Park to Park 578 and revolved around protest marshals cordoning off protesters who wanted to get close to the fences of the security perimeter for the United Center, where the DNC is being held.
“You see this? They’re blocking you from the butchers of Gaza!”
There were no physical injuries seen or reported despite tussling and argumentative yelling. The ruckus was watched by Chicago Police officers (CPD) on bikes who were monitoring the protest in the hundreds. The organized protest marshals and participants called out for the CPD to intervene.
