WaxWorld Hosts Benefit Events for Businesses Impacted by Deadly ICE Operation in Minneapolis

From inside her record store WaxWorld, Rosa Garcia shared what it was like as a business owner on Lake Street in Minneapolis during ICE’s historic and deadly Operation Metro Surge.

Also known as DJ Madre Rosa, Garcia is the founder of DJ-U, a free program for young DJs that was started nearly 10 years ago. Despite her program loosing funding this year and having to close her store for three weeks, Garcia has held multiple benefit events, fundraising for local businesses that were financially impacted by the federal occupation. The first event was a two-day, 15-hour DJ stream in January that was organized after Renee Good was killed by federal agents. On the second day of the stream, Alex Pretti was killed by federal agents.

This is an excerpt of an upcoming special on DJ-U and DJ Madre Rosa.
