Troy Amlee/Akičita Šuŋka-Wakaŋ Ska

Troy Amlee, in Lakota Akičita Šuŋka-Wakaŋ Ska (White Horse Warrior), is an Indigenous Unicorn Riot journalist from Minneapolis. Their coverage focuses on everything from indigenous stories to environmental justice struggles, bringing a mic in your face approach to capturing voices who are underrepresented. They work on documentaries and cinematography, web development, and technical operations.

Projects:

Collaborated with Harvard Visual Arts professor Karthik Pandian to film and capture the essence of performances commemorating the Columbus statue’s removal, the documentaries ‘In The River’, and ‘Surrendur’ were created, highlighting social justice themes. I utilized advanced cinematography techniques to enhance visual storytelling. The documentaries have been featured in a New York film festival and many others.

Working on a documentary called ‘No Demo’ (working title) that focuses on the environmental justice issue that enveloped East Phillips Minneapolis in a struggle for preventing a toxic demolition of the Roof Depot site from the City of Minneapolis.

Worked on a documentary called ‘The Case of Marvin Haynes’ with UR journalist Niko Georgiades that highlighted a wrongful conviction of Marvin Haynes, which resulted in his release twenty years later.
