Palestinian Girls’ Boxing Club Continues Amid Genocide
Gaza, Palestine — Among tents of displaced Palestinians, while Israeli bombs demolish large portions of Gaza, Osama Ayoub continues his passion of coaching boxing. After his boxing club was demolished by Israel’s unrelenting bombardments of civilian areas in Gaza City, Ayoub said he’ll never give up training and coaching despite the “war, bombing, permanent fear all around us.”
From the Abu Ghazi land camp in Khan Younis, Osama Ayoub and Naseem Ayoub spoke to Unicorn Riot about being displaced and continuing their boxing training with no equipment aside from a pillow and a rug to stand on.
Since the Oct. 7 attack on Israel led by Hamas militants that left at least 1,139 Israelis dead, the ensuing acts of genocide committed by Israel have killed over 41,455 Palestinians, including 16,500 children with over 10,000 more missing. Over 1.9 million Palestinians have been forcibly internally displaced in the small enclave and a majority of residential and commercial buildings have been destroyed.
