Palestinians in Gaza Discuss Upcoming Donald Trump Presidency
Gaza, Palestine — In late 2024, not long after the U.S. Presidential Elections, three displaced Palestinians spoke with Unicorn Riot about their thoughts on Donald Trump again becoming president. “Regarding the U.S. elections, for us, the Palestinian people, it doesn’t matter who wins, because U.S. policy is one and the same … It’s all one policy, and the policy of the White House is well-known to side with the Israeli occupation,” said Mahmoud Daoud. At least 46,565 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza by Israel since Oct. 7, 2023.

“Regarding Trump’s assumption of the U.S. presidency, I don’t think things will be better, because it is well known that Trump, in the end, cares more about Israeli interests than those of the Palestinian people. His concern is not a humanitarian one at all, but rather it is well known that Israel is the favorite child of America. So what do you expect? Especially with Trump, who is always known to be on the side of Israel. In this situation, I don’t think there is hope for something better or improvement politically, militarily, or in stopping the war, or in making a decision to end the war, the Israeli war against our people. We hope for that, and we hope to alleviate the suffering, but I’m not optimistic. If Trump wanted to do that, he could have influence on Israel, but only if he truly wanted it. I hope for that, but I’m not optimistic, as I said. I don’t think it will happen, because in his first speech after the election, he said that wars will continue for several years. It’s as if he is forewarning us that there will be no ceasefire, and no end to the war.”

“I expect there will soon be a breakthrough in Gaza and Palestine under Trump’s leadership. Why? Because of his clear friendship with Prime Minister Netanyahu. And he will gain free [political] accomplishments. We know very well that the U.S. and Israeli policies align on everything. He [Donald Trump] contributed significantly to settlement expansion in Palestine and moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. Now with his success in the U.S. elections, we pray it will be beneficial for us as Palestinians. However, we do not trust that it will be. I do not think that Trump will pressure Israel to end the war, as U.S. policy is entirely aligned with Israeli policy. It aligns with Israel’s vision for the land, so Trump will strongly push first to achieve Israel’s goals, and secondly, to enhance his political and global image by ending the war on Gaza. However, this would not satisfy Palestinians in any of their rights. We pray that this war ends peacefully, and we ask God for safety.”
Mahmoud Daoud
“Regarding the U.S. elections, for us, the Palestinian people, it doesn’t matter who wins, because U.S. policy is one and the same. One president hands over to another, and it’s all a single agenda. There’s no difference between Trump and Biden, and Biden is no different from the one before him. It’s all one policy, and the policy of the White House is well-known with the Israeli occupation. As for pressure on Israel, I don’t think it’s going to be as intense as people expect, because over the course of the past years, Israel has always been the one pressuring the U.S. administration. It’s Israel that pressures the U.S. administration to implement its settlement plans and similar agendas. He already had a previous term, and he did nothing for the Palestinian cause. On the contrary, the U.S. embassy was moved to Jerusalem. This harms Palestinian interests and affects Palestinian rights. I also believe that at this stage, we don’t expect anything good from this man.”
