Two Brothers Among Four Boys Killed by Israeli Drone Strike in Gaza City

Gaza City, Gaza — Four children, two of them brothers, were killed in an Israeli drone strike on a group of Palestinians collecting firewood in the Zeitoun neighborhood in southeast Gaza City on March 15, 2025.

“I have been taking care of my children for a year and a half and I didn’t allow them outside but I did today,” cried Umm Ahmed Al-Arqan, who lost two sons, Mahmoud, 15, and Yusuf, 13.

Over the last two weeks — during Ramadan, the holiest month for Muslims — Israel has closed all Gaza crossings, not allowing in any humanitarian aid, fuel, food, hygiene products or other essentials like cooking oil.

Mahmoud and Yusuf, who were always kept tucked close to their mother, went to get firewood for their evening meal to break their fast and were killed with two of their friends.

“Is this what a truce is? Is this peace and safety?” asked Awda Al-Arini.

These killings take place during a violent uptick in Israeli bombings across the Gaza Strip leaving hundreds of Palestinian civilians dead since the January ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. Israel ended the ceasefire with a bombing campaign across the Gaza Strip that killed at least 404 people and wounded 562 in the early hours of Tuesday, March 18.

Over 61,700 Palestinians have been killed by Israel since the Hamas-led attacks on Israeli settlers on October 7, 2023 which left over 1,139 Israelis dead and 251 captured.

Last week Israel was found to have been committing genocidal acts of systemic destruction of reproductive healthcare and deliberately preventing births during their historically violent revenge campaign on Gaza, according to a new report by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel.
