More than 4,000 people took the streets of Athens on March 14 in support of the Community of Squatted Prosfygika and to protest against the government’s plans to evict its 400+ residents and repurpose the buildings.
As part of this mass mobilization, Aristotelis Chantzis, a 46-year-old member of the squatted community, began a hunger strike on February 5, vowing to continue until death.
The community is demanding the immediate cancellation of the plan, guarantees that all current residents will be allowed to remain in their homes, and formal recognition of the renovation proposal developed by the community itself.
