Shortly after the Israeli bombings and targeted assassinations of Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement members started on August 5, Egyptian officials acted as third-party mediators. After days of negotiation and talks, they were able to broker a ceasefire between Israel and the PIJ that went into effect at 20:30 GMT on August 7, 2022.
