Four-month-old Jeneen Saleh Al-Sakafi died in Al-Rantisi Hospital in Gaza City in early May 2025 due to malnutrition from Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza. Because of the Israeli siege on Gaza, the closure of all crossings, and the denial of all food, aid, and even baby formula, more than 115 Palestinians in Gaza have starved to death since Oct. 2023 and 74 in 2025, including 63 in July alone.
The mother of little Jeneen, Aya Khalil Al-Sakafi, 21, shared her heart-wrenching story with Unicorn Riot. After she couldn’t find milk, doctors gave her a referral to get treatment abroad, “once the crossings opens.” Jeneen died before the crossings were opened.
“She died because of the siege—because the crossing was closed for so long—because of the siege and the famine. I wish I could scream to the whole world. “Save my child from death!””
