Chicago Teachers and Allies Rally as Strike Continues

Chicago, IL – Unicorn Riot covered a labor rally in solidarity with the ongoing Chicago Teachers Union strike. The strike enters its tenth day and began October 17, 2019.

Teachers in Chicago are calling for smaller class sizes, adequate nurses, librarians, social workers, and teachers aides in every school. The teachers are also trying to address the need for affordable housing for the 16,000 homeless students in the Chicago Public Schools.

Over 300,000 students in the Chicago Public Schools have had school canceled the last seven days, as about 30,000 school employees and members of the Chicago Teachers Union and SEIU Local 72 have struck for better educating conditions.

As of last night, October 25, 2019 Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Teachers Union suggested a deal was close to being made.
