All four of the MPD officers have been arrested regarding their involvement with Floyd’s killing.

Charges against Derek Chauvin, the man whose knee was on Floyd’s neck for almost ten minutes, have been moved up to second-degree murder from third-degree murder. He is also charged with second-degree manslaughter.

Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J. Alexander Keung, the other three officers involved, were arrested on Wednesday. They have each been charged with aiding and abetting Chauvin on both of his charges.

The four officers had been fired by MPD chief Medeira Arradondo on Tuesday, May 26, the day after Floyd’s killing and the day the protests at the 3rd Precinct station officially began.

When asked the family of George Floyd reported they were glad to hear the charges had been intensified, though they still seek a charge of first-degree murder against Chauvin for his role in the death of their loved one.
