Denver, CO – Protests filled city streets all across the country Wednesday night, including in Denver, where hundreds rallied at the Colorado State Capitol and then marched throughout downtown. Earlier in the day, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron (R) announced that no charges would be filed against police officers in direct connection with Taylor’s murder. Instead, the only charges the state is filing are three counts of wanton endangerment against former Louisville Metro Police officer Brett Hankison for firing into neighboring apartments.

Taylor was a 26-year-old Black woman and healthcare worker who was asleep in bed in March 2020 with her boyfriend when the police began hammering the front door loudly, waking the two up. This surprise raid led to Taylor’s murder.

On September 15, 2020, six months after Taylor’s murder, a lawsuit was settled between her family and Louisville awarding them $12 million.

At around 9:30 p.m. in Denver, a vehicle drove through some of the protesters who remained on the street outside the capitol; no one was badly harmed, and the Denver police arrested the driver. However on Thursday, Denver police said the driver was released and is not facing criminal charges.

Three other people were arrested during the protest, which continued past the end of the officially planned one. At about 10 p.m., some protestors marched to the Denver Police Department District 6 Precinct, where there was a stand-off between cops in riot gear standing behind the precinct fence, and the protesters on the sidewalk and street. Projectiles were used by both sides.

Protesters in St. Paul, MN shut down I-94 for about thirty minutes, and two marshals of the march were arrested.

More protests are expected to continue in cities across the country.
