The official number of nearly 75,000 Palestinians killed during Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza following the October 7 attacks is a mere estimate with a full tally likely to be unknown for years. The first independent survey of deaths in Gaza released in late June found over 84,000 Palestinians were killed as of January 2025 and the Lancet report notes a death toll of at least 186,000 Palestinians killed by Israel from October 2023 to July 2024, or 41% above official numbers. According to Israeli military intelligence, at least 83% of the victims are civilians.
Mass protests against the deadly acts have occurred across the world and dozens of countries, human rights groups as well as international courts have stated Israel’s actions amount to genocide.
