At the end of August, the G20 met in Asheville at the behest of the federal government, which wanted to show off the area’s recovery after Hurricane Helene battered the region in 2024. But locals say the recovery wasn’t the work of the federal government or financiers, but rather locals helping one another out. On Saturday, August 29 residents lined a street near downtown Asheville to spread that message.
