Reporter Reflection on George Floyd Uprising – Feature-Length Documentary

Unicorn Riot’s exclusive new feature-length documentary, Reporter Reflection on George Floyd Uprising, spotlights the perspectives of the community on the frontlines of the historic popular revolt following the merciless police killing of George Floyd. Narrated by Unicorn Riot’s Niko Georgiades, the 150-minute documentary takes you through burning Minneapolis streets with a grieving community seeking justice faced off against a violent police force and into the besieged 3rd Precinct.

Reporter Reflection on George Floyd Uprising melds the groundbreaking five episode series into one film providing a view of 13 days from ground zero of the international movement against anti-Black racism and police terror.

Starting at the initial vigil site at what would become George Floyd Square, moving to the ransacking of the 3rd Precinct, to the Governor’s Residence and State Capitol, the film returns back to the Square and Powderhorn Park where city members delivered their empty vow to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department. Waves of rage tore through the Twin Cities after Minneapolis Police were filmed killing George Floyd, a 46-year-old father of five and security guard, on Memorial Day 2020. The historic uprising that followed the murder saw the Minneapolis Police’s 3rd Precinct taken over and set ablaze by thousands of community members after days of unrest.

Following the ransacking of the precinct, Derek Chauvin was charged. However, the community demanded the arrest of all the officers involved, leading to another week of continued unrest until the other officers had also been charged and arrested.

From in front of the 3rd Precinct and beyond, Unicorn Riot extensively documented the uprising with dozens of reports and endless hours of live streams from the frontline — Reporter Reflection features highlights from this coverage.

The reflection from Georgiades was recorded at Saint Paul Neighborhood Network (SPNN) in early June 2020. In the fall of 2020 (on what would’ve been George Floyd’s 47th birthday) Unicorn Riot began releasing the five episode series.

The film was produced, edited, and narrated by Niko Georgiades. Emmy-Award winning journalist Georgia Fort was associate producer and Stony Wellz produced the music. Footage in the documentary featured videographers Niko Georgiades, Jenn Schreiter, Teddy Grimes/Extensive Knowledge Productions and Sophia Narwitz. [Vimeo link | YouTube link]
