Racial Justice Teach-in at Abolish ICE Camp in Aurora CO
AURORA, CO – The encampment at the GEO Group’s ICE facility in Aurora, Colorado, is hosting a teach-in about reparations and racial justice. The Black Hammer will be leading the event. Yesterday was the end of week three for the encampment which is demanding the ICE jail ‘Free them all’ (hashtag #FreeThemAll).

The Aurora GEO ICE detention facility has 1,500 beds and is operated as a private prison. There is a class-action lawsuit against the facility, which accuses them of paying detainees $1 a day to help run the facility. The GEO Group, Inc., based in Boca Raton, Florida, is a publicly traded real estate investment trust that invests in private prisons and mental health facilities in North America, Australia, South Africa, and the UK.
Particularly in recent years sites like the Aurora facility have been the subject of many lawsuits alleging mismanagement, mistreatment and health risks.
